The 2009 United States Open Golf Championship will be the 109th U.S. Open, and is scheduled to be played from June 18th to June 21st, 2009. This will be the second U.S. Open to be played at Bethpage State Park. It is also the second of the four major championships in golf and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. It is staged by the United States Golf Association (USGA) in mid-June, scheduled such that the final round is always played on the third Sunday, which is Father's Day.
One thing that is going to make this championship really interesting is that Tiger Woods won this tournament back in 2002 on its 102nd edition at this same court. So, there are high odds for him to win this tournament again at this field.
The U.S. Open is staged at a variety of courses, set up in such a way that scoring turns very difficult for the players. U.S. Open play is characterized by tight scoring at or around par by the leaders, with the winner emerging at just under par. That is another of the reason why the tournament is well known worldwide.
A streak of four consecutive non-American winners occurred from 2004 to 2007 for the first time since 1910. These four players—South African Retief Goosen (2004), New Zealander Michael Campbell (2005), Australian Geoff Ogilvy (2006) and Argentine Ángel Cabrera (2007) —are all from countries in the Southern Hemisphere. No player from Europe has won since Tony Jacklin of England in 1970. That is why we are expecting anxiously the up coming results on this one.
US OPEN GOLF FINAL RESULTS
The US OPEN golf championship has a champion. The 29 year old Lucas Glover won last Monday against the rain and all the weather situations obtaining at the end an amazing score of 69-64-70-73 for a total of 276. The second place was for Phil Mickelson with a total of 278 also with David Duval and Ricky Barnes followed by Ross Fisher with 279 and Tiger Woods with 280 points. Definitely the ending was not expected especially because Tiger Woods was not the winner, but at the end we were able to see a great ending for the tournament.
