Bet PGA Golf Tour Tournament

The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is one of the annual World Golf Championships for male professional golfers. It is a knockout event and is staged in January or February each year. It is sponsored by and named after Accenture, a consulting firm. This year the tournament is going to take place from February 15th until February 21st at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club located at the Dove Mountain – Marana, Arizona.

From its inauguration in 1999 through 2006 it was hosted every year by La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California, except in 2001, when it was hosted by the Metropolitan Golf Club in Victoria, Australia.

In 2007 the event moved to The Gallery Golf Club in Marana, Arizona, a suburb northwest of Tucson, for two years. All three of the individual World Golf Championships events will be played in the United States from 2007, which has attracted criticism from some golfers, including Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, and in the media outside the United States. PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem has responded by insisting that playing in the U.S. is best for golf as more money can be made there than elsewhere.

At almost every single edition of the competition, a player from USA have won, but at the last one, it was an Australian golfer the one that won the competition. Geoff Ogilvy won $1,400,000 and this year, without Tiger Woods on the head he is one of the most favorites to win the competition.

One of the favorite players, Rory McIlroy's is not going to be able to play the tournament because of a back problem. The back problem is just a slight nerve impingement and will not prevent him taking part in next week's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona.

The 20-year-old Northern Irishman saw a specialist on his return from Dubai, where he finished sixth on Sunday in defence of his Desert Classic title. McIlroy has been working with South African physio Cornell Driesson to try to manage the discomfort he feels occasionally. "He just needs to rest for a day," said management spokesman Martin Hardy.

McIlroy has taken up US Tour membership this season and next week is the first of five events there before The Masters in April.

RESULTS WGC Accenture Tournament 2010

Ian Poulter is now the winner of the Accenture Match Play. He took home $1.4 million and the famous Walter Hagen Cup trophy.

Dressed in pink on a chilly day in the high desert, Poulter put on a short-game clinic Sunday and led over the final 28 holes on his way to a 4-and-2 victory over Paul Casey in an all-England final at the first World Golf Championship of the year.
